Back in grad school, I had a very good friend from Sri Lanka. He was a bit of a skirt chaser.
But if the concern driving these ads had anything to do with his life, then I've just gained a whole new insight into the man. Sure, he coulda been sowing his wild oats like the rest of us. On the other hand, he might have been rebelling against societal expatations of him.
Well I've seen this and worse in India too. The cynicism of putting an amount to marriage somehow just seems a little too much to me even when I try to be understanding of my countrymen's cultural values.
When I was a teen, in the '80's, I thought it was better to burn out than fade away. That may be true, but the possibilities seen at that age are so...limiting. Somehow my life has gotten fuller, with added dimensions that I could never have imagined then. Instead of burning out or fading away, I will grow like a tree or crystallize and start refracting the world around me.
