Overwhelmed by myspace blog subscriptions, vast numbers of worthy "friends" and underwhelmed by how much attention I could pay to each, I committed blogicide on myspace a few weeks ago. Well, not really blogicide--I cut and pasted the whole thing into a word doc, and then killed my myspace account. I don't miss it. I think it hurt for an entire half hour. I'm glad I made a few real friends out of my myfriends.
I wish I could be funnier about this but my tube socks are too tight. Ow.

Hi Suki,
ReplyDeleteI finally found you in my favorites list, whew, thought I lost you. I found your messages missing at MySpace and couldn't find you there. I can understand feeling like you aren't giving enough attention to friends n such. I, too have spent a week making my cyber world smaller by deleting my two google groups. I only had one member who would participate and I totally lost my passion. Then I quit all but 2 yahoo groups and I remain with the 3 msn groups. I did join a new msn group only because some online friends joined and the group had nicely incorporated an other-domain chatroom. I now feel more sane having feeling more relaxed about doing "fun" things online.
As far as MySpace goes, there is some porn guy named "Jason" that must be preventing me from blocking him each time I do so. It, or "he" has sent me 4 invites to sybscribe and it is pissing me off. Also, I miss having you at my space. I liked what you had to say about things and you would post frequently enough, too, which did give me something to look forward to. Now I need to remember to visit Mandulation 23 more frequently now. I don't know if I made it to the level of "real friend" or not but I hope we can still stay in some kind of contact once in a while.
Your friend,
Orki
How do you know you have too many MySpace friends? When an *real* person sends out a message saying they're leaving and it gets lost among the various invites to band gigs in London or L.A. or Boston, or the "check out my new song" bulletins... Sorry you're gone but at least I know where to find you on a couple of places. ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my MySpace is currently collecting cyber dust as it sits un-logged into.
Hi Orki and Eff. I am glad you found me over here. Things have been busy at work lately. I have a new work goal: not to let my boss look like a ninny--and it is harder work (with fewer payoffs) than you'd expect. I'll be around visiting you both on livejournal and blogger. I think my blogger friends have always been better than myspacers.
ReplyDeleteJohnny posted this link from wall street journal about people fleeing myspace and facebook. Poor stalkers and spammers. They are losing out!
Let me just say with regards to my past couple of weeks: I oh so love work drama and its added stress!
ReplyDeleteI have a 21-year-old coworker who has made a point of saying how he prefers Facebook over MySpace as MySpace has "too many old people on there." Ah, kids these days...
